The best tools to become a better writer – other people’s words!

Whether you read paperbacks, newspapers, emails, journal articles, recipes, magazines or menus – every sentence is a lesson for you to become a better writer.

You may notice punctuation, sentence structure, typos or even discover new words. Subconsciously, reading more will help you write better.

What do you like to read? Next time you read, pay particular attention to the finer details.

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Was it easy to understand and why?

Was the writing style consistent?

Did the writer capture your attention?

Could you vividly picture the imagery described?

Were you bored, excited, scared?

Try to identify positive and negative aspects of what you have read and use it as a lesson for your next project.
